Internship in Saint Marc Haiti

Background
The Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) started working in Haiti since mid January with the Communauté OpenStreetMap Haiiti (COSMHA) to implement some of the aspects of the USAID-funded STM020 mapping project in Saint Marc. Through this project, a joint team of HOT and COSMHA will be creating a group of 30 mappers recruited amongst the Youths of Saint Marc and together with them improve upon the baseline data of the Saint Marc Development Corridor (SDC). HOT will support COSMHA in designing and running training and data collection plans as well as producing specific training and guidance documentation around OSM-based surveying and mapping techniques, data model, data collection and JOSM presets and coordinating the development of tools (data download service and a web visualization service).
Profile
HOT is proposing a 4 week internship to work on the Saint Marc project and get experienced with the on-the-ground work started there with COSMHA. The intern will be based in Saint Marc and be working under the supervision of the HOT coordinator and closely with the two COSMHA coordinators to assist in:
Managing the team of COSMHA mappers paired with Youth trainees
Implementing data collection programs
Training team and partners
Practicalities
Workplace and lodging will be in the villa that USAID/OTI/HRI is renting for HOT and COSMA. Note that lodging is in shared rooms and comfort is basic. Duration of the assignment is four weeks, travel will be organized to allow work throughout 27-Feb to 23-March 2012. HOT will cover transportation and insurance costs overall in the limits of 2,000 USD.
Eligibility criteria:
Active in HOT activities and commitment to join future HOT work in the field
Education and/or work experience in the fields of GIS or programming
Experience in the field of Development or Disaster Response
Experience in data collection programs
Experience in training and capacity building
Thorough usage of GPS, editors of the OSM project (JOSM and Potlatch), GIS desktop applications (primarily Quantum GIS) and familiarity with PostGIS
Interpersonal skills, effective team member, capacity to work under pressure and in a multi-cultural environment
Fluent in French, proficient in English, Haitian Kreyol a bonus
